Here are 13 new BC beers released in BC this week

Featuring beachside vibes and Pride releases

Good morning!

We have some beach vibes this week with two of the featured new beer releases taking inspiration from sandy beaches. But first, we showcase a beer that is hyper-local with malts and hops sourced either at the brewery, or near it.

We have some fresh job postings in the job board, and some retro-looking tap handles for a soon-to-open brewery in Port Moody.

Enjoy the short week y'all!

NEW BEER RELEASE

Terroir Rye

Locality Brewing celebrated its one-year anniversary this past weekend, and to mark the occasion, they released a double IPA that celebrates BC farms like theirs.

Uncharted was brewed with Locality's in-house Pilsner and Rye malts and hops grown here in BC. This one is full-bodied with a touch of spice from the rye malt, complemented by citrus, fruit, and bubblegum from the hops. Coming in at 8.5%, you'll want to enjoy this one slowly.

  • Available: On tap at the brewery

  • Location: 7111 252 St, Langley | Map

NEW BEER RELEASE

Poolside Margarita

Slackwater Brewing has a tequila barrel-aged tart ale brewed with lime juice, sea salt, and New World Motueka hops. Margarita Pool was aged in Herradura Reposado oak before getting blended with fresh lime juice and dry hopped. It promises "an extra juicy, limey finish."

  • Available: Exclusively at Jak's Liquor Stores across BC.

NEW BEER RELEASE

Seafoam Green

I'm not sure I've ever seen a green wheat ale, but there's a first for everything.

Land and Sea has released Seafoam Tropical Ale featuring naturally occurring blue-green algae called Spirulina. Hopped with Vic Secret hops and conditioned on "hundreds of pounds" of real pineapple, this beer should take your mind to a sandy beach in the tropics. Coming in at a light 4%, you may want a couple.

  • Available: On tap at the brewery

  • Location: 2040 Guthrie Rd, Comox | Map

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Phenols

This week, inspired by a blog post by Faculty Brewing's head brewer Ryan, we dig into an aromatic topic. If you've ever heard beer geeks talk about saison styles, you may overhear them talking about phenols.

What are they, and do we want them in our beer? Short answer: it depends.

When a beer is phenolic, it is often described as clove-like, medicinal, or even, "band-aid." Depending on the beer style, that could be a good thing (the clove flavours, not the band-aid flavours!) or a bad thing. In most beers, the strong presence of polyphenols is considered an off-flavour. But, in farmhouse-style beers it's considered an essential characteristic, especially in wheat beer, table beer, abbey-style single, dubbed, triple, quad, and Belgian-style blondes.

Occasionally when we describe a farmhouse beer at Beer Loop, we'll talk about "phenolic" notes. When you see that, you know we're talking about clove, bubblegum, pepper, banana, spicy and even smoky notes. Most often, it's a good thing, appropriate for the style.

BEER ART

Rewind Beer Co., which is set to open on Brewers Row in Port Moody, continues to tease its opening on Instagram. We love the look of the new tap handles. Goes well with this 80s playlist I've been playing all summer.
