NEW BEER RELEASE
Cherry rosé sour
Bakery Brewing in Port Moody has a fruity and funky sour ale aged in Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Bourbon barrels with wild yeast and aged on cherry purée. When we sampled it, Cherry Rosé Sour had a mild funk nose, a beautiful deep pink colour, a very crisp and tart body with tannins that lingered. As it warmed up, we also detected vanilla and cherries. A great patio sip

THE GREAT BC BREWERY RANKINGS DEBATE

Justin McElroy continues to release his 2022 brewery rankings, releasing his list of breweries in his average and good tiers. We're curious to get your views on these rankings. What do you dis/agree with? Shoot us a reply! We'll circle back with our final thoughts on Friday. For now, we want to hear from you!
ONE FUN THING
Let's be honest, we've all been to an event like this...
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Thiols — the next big thing
If you caught it, one of this week's new releases showcases thiols, a term we're seeing gain a lot of popularity in the last year, and one we think will become all the rage in the next year.
Thiols are highly aroma-active compounds that can give very intense fruity flavour to predominantly dry-hopped beers. Thiols were only discovered in recent years, and for a short while, we assumed they were derived exclusively from hops. However, yeast labs like Canada's own Escarpment Labs have recently released yeast strains that unleash these flavour compounds.
Why are they all the rage? Thiol compounds smell like Sauvignon Blanc wine, gooseberry, guava, grapefruit, and passionfruit — flavours that beer lovers can't get enough of right now.
