The best beers of November
Wet Hop IPAs, Black IPAs, and a Kölsches make the list
Good morning!
I'm back home after spending time in Brazil and am looking forward to getting caught up on last week's new beer releases. November involved a lot of travel for me, which means our list of favourite BC beers for November is a touch lighter with less diversity in breweries than we normally have in our monthly roundups. It pretty much reflects my son's soccer away schedule for the month...however, make no mistake, these beers have earned their spot.
Also, if you want a go-to-list of beers in Brazil, let me know!

Camp Beer Co - Wet Coast '22
The 2022 version of Camp Beer Co.'s fresh hop IPA brings a lot of mosaic to the nose. Upon tasting this beautiful beer, we were hit with loads of dank goodness. It tastes super West Coast in an old school way that we love. Hints of caramel malt notes in the background makes this fresh hop beauty worth getting your hands on.
House of Funk - Hegels Dark Night
This beer is, as the name suggests, dark as night, with a decent head. Also, it's a Black IPA, a style we're partial to and feel deserves more attention than it gets. In this version, we picked up coffee and dark raisin in the nose. Light and bright at first, the flavours give way to delicate roasted malt notes with hints of oak. The bitterness is a slow-release, which when combined with the dry finish, makes for an enticing sip.
Yellow Dog - Starborn Kölsch
This Kölsch-style beer pours slightly hazy with a decent, long-lasting head. Lack of clarity is not a bad thing, as this version of the style is incredibly flavourful. We picked up rich cereal and light malts, which are an important showcase for the style. This interpretation adds an assertive old world hop profile, with a spicy nose and a bitter finish for balance.
House of Funk - Ophelia
A farmhouse ale that looks the part, pouring a light gold colour with a slightly hazy appearance. The head dissipates quickly to reveal funk and gooseberries in the nose, supported by mellow hints of oak. The flavours start with a hit of bright berries, which give way to very light cereal notes once the acidity dissipates. Flavourful.
Camp Beer Co. - Limitless Vistas
We previewed this beer when we highlighted it in our American Pale Ale style explorer. Unfortunately, this is not in Camp Beer Co.'s flagship lineup, but if/when it makes a return, you'll want to make a trip to the brewery to taste this delicious beer. It pours a beautifully clear amber colour. Juicy and resinous aromas with hints of apricot and pear makes for an enticing first impression. Sweet malt notes on first contact give way to tropical hop flavours. Pear-like flavours evolve in the finish, which leans on the bitter side.
Container - Twenty Footer
Our initial reaction to taking in the aromas and first sips of this beer? "Just, lovely." The aromas and initial flavours reminded us of orange blossom water and Tunisian nights. The malt notes are pretty restrained for an easy drinking and highly aromatic pale ale. It's a nice take on the style.
