The best beers of October
Belgians, wet harvest ales, and lagers make the list
Good morning!
I hope you were able to take in Halloween fun at a brewery near you this weekend. I took the family to Farm Country in Langley and had one of the best barrel-aged beers I've had in a very long time. No surprise that it makes this list of the beers we most enjoyed in October.
Today is also a big day for us at The Beer Loop. We are launching a referral program to reward you with free stuff when you successfully refer friends and family to sign-up to our newsletter. Free beer, stickers, glassware, and even more free beer. Scroll down to get started!

Farm Country Brewing Centaurus
This beer is worth seeking out while supplies last. It starts with a light and clear straw colour and hits you up with sour and very light funk notes in the nose. Once it hits your tongue, chardonnay flavours shine with light notes of citrus and sweet lychee. With a soft mouthfeel and wonderfully soft oak notes, this beer is beautiful.
Mariner Drops of Jupiter
You've heard us talk about how much we love Altbier, and how tough it is to find in BC. If you love this style as much as we do, we have good news. Mariner has done the style respect with this limited release. Beautiful red in the light, clear brown to the eye. Dry roasted malt aromas fill the nose. Once you taste, assertive hop bitterness is met with strong and clean roasted malt flavours. Rich, complex, yet clean, with a nutty finish.
La Cerveceria Astilleros Paloma Citrus
We had an earlier attempt of this recipe, which was an IPA in August. This version, as a wheat ale is a much improved recipe and a fun beer. It pours slightly hazy like a wheat ale. We get intense grapefruit in the nose. The flavours are bright and the mouthfeel effervescent, with light grapefruit and citrus underpinned by a wheat ale profile, sans phenols. Refreshing, like a cocktail.
Camp Beer Co. Lagerkoller
Here we have a case study for getting beer as fresh as you can. When we tasted the last release of this beer, we found that it was a "solid" and "reliable treatment of the Vienna Lager style. This time we enjoyed it significantly more, the fresh. Soft maltiness and moderate bitterness with a reasonable dry finish. Wonderful bread malt notes and an underlying toasted character. Some spicy hop notes, with a clean lager profile. Delightful.
Russell Pale Ale
Sometimes you just want a reliable pale ale with the right balance between bright hop notes and an underlying caramel malt backbone. This one does the trick. Dark gold colour with a decent head, rich malt and light citrus aromas entice you to take the next sip. Wonderful first wave of flavours. Sweet citrus turns to light bitterness turns to bitter citrus. Clean fermentation profile. Finishes clean. Dependable.
Container Brewing Dark Arts
This Belgian treat pours a beautiful copper colour. Aromas are spectacular. Figs meets cream soda. I know, it sounds weird, but I can't think of a better descriptor. Flavours are intense on first contact. Dark raison, dried fruit, and a touch of fruit cake. Dark caramelized flavours open up as the beer warms on the tongue. Super smooth.
Yellow Dog Alpha Dog
This wet harvest pale ale is absolutely delightful. Gorgeous light copper colour, fresh wet hop aromas bursting at the rim. Wonderfully hoppy with a solid malt backbone, making it exceptionally drinkable. This is what a harvest ale should taste like. The citra shines differently here.
