Did someone say Thiols?

A beer with thiols, a lager festival, and a patio concert to check out

It's Friday!

And that means we have two new patios to check out, some fun events, including a lager festival, and a featured beer that showcases thiols.

Enjoy the weekend!

WHERE TO GO: FEATURED PATIOS

Superflux

While we could talk about the insanely popular IPAs that have made Superflux one of the "it" breweries in the province, visiting the taproom gives you a chance to try some of their other styles, which are equally as good as their juicy IPAs. Find a spot on the patio and get ready to have your mind blown.

🍺 What to drink: Even if you plan on exploring the non-IPA options, a session at Superlux would be incomplete without at least one IPA. Start with Pretty Much Yeah.

  • Food options: Gourmet hot dogs and salads from the in-house kitchen.

  • Brewery location: 505 Clark Dr., Vancouver | Map

  • Website | Instagram

33 Acres

Some places feel purpose designed for a laid-back brunch, and 33 Acres has that vibe and a menu to go with it. The avocado toast is a fan favourite, as are the London Fog waffles.

🍺 What to drink: 33 Acres of Sunshine is easy to drink, refreshing and enjoyable, especially while sitting on the patio for brunch.

  • Food options: The in-house kitchen has a selection of small snacks like nuts, beef jerky, as well as more filling options like pretzel and charcuterie boards, and deli sandwiches. Brunch on weekends and Top Rope Birria food truck on Thursday nights.

  • Brewery location: 15 W 8th Ave, Vancouver | Map

  • Five Roads Brewing

  • Brassneck

  • Tapworks

  • Backcountry

WHAT TO DRINK THIS WEEKEND

Get Far From Home

Remember weeks ago when we talked about thiols being the next big thing? (Don't remember? No sweat, scroll down to the Beer School section here). We got word from Container Brewing that they have been experimenting with the yeast strain that releases these tropical flavour compounds. Thiols feature in their New Zealand Hopped Hazy IPA.

  • What to expect: "Dominated by sweet tropical fruit and citrus up front, followed by notes of apple and pear. The fruit forward hop profile is complimented by a lightly sweet finish and full mouthfeel. Zero Kiwis were harmed during the production of this beer."

  • Available: On tap and in cans at the brewery, and in select stores.

  • Location: 1216 Franklin St., Vancouver | Map

Looking to do a deep dive on thiols? Container has no fewer than three beers featuring the thiol technique. The other two? Origin (New England IPA) and Destination (coming soon).

SOMETHING FUN

I'd love to know how this label got approved. Amazing.
