It's not all dry in January

New releases and events to kick off the New Year

Happy Friday!

Five random things to get us started today...

  1. Dageraad is looking for a full-time brewer, should you be interested.

  2. The BeerVan is switching up its delivery schedule, now with two delivery options: Thursdays between 10am-4pm (for orders placed by Wednesday) and 5pm-8pm (for orders place same day).

  3. Many of BC's breweries posted new hours this week. You might want to check in on your brewery's hours before paying them a visit on Monday morning...

  4. This has to be the most beautiful Instagram BC beer feed ever.

  5. If you're the dry January type, or otherwise enjoy a non-alcoholic beer, we're curious, which of these NA BC beers do you like the most? We'll share the results next week.

With so many new beer releases heading into the holiday season, BC's brewers took a well-deserved break. Our new beer release list is lighter than usual, but we still have some fascinating releases to share with you. Enjoy!

FEATURED NEW BEER RELEASES

Oh Kriek-y

Look at the colour on this one! Moon Brewery and Distillery's latest release, Oud Moon Kriek is an Imperial Sour Ale with cherries. This one was a long time in the making.

Two years ago, the brewery set out to make its own version of traditional lambic-style ale. Once they brewed the beer, it sat in French oak barrels for 18 months before receiving a dose of lactose sugar and BC-grown dark cherries. The result is an 8.4% dry ale with the promise of ripe cherry notes and an intense complex sour hit that includes notes of vanilla and almonds.

  • Available: Now in 650ml bottles at the brewery; in liquor stores in the coming days.

Pick Me Up

Field House Brewing is helping us kick in the New Year with a dose of caffeine. The brewery's new Cold Brew Stout came out yesterday and it features the brewery's own coffee blend. The beer was brewed with oatmeal for a soft and silky feel. The coffee is a cold brew with earthy honey notes. With the addition of brown sugar, this beer promises notes of roast and chocolate, for a smooth finish.

  • Available: In 4-packs and on tap at the brewery's Chilliwack and Abbotsford locations.

Big and Smokey

Luppolo Brewing used exclusive dark and smoked malts to make this Imperial Stout for an intense flavour profile with depth and complexity. "It pours a deep, dark brown with a creamy head. Aromas of toffee, chocolate, and dark fruit lead to flavours of caramel and roasted hazelnuts with a subtle sweetness and balanced bitterness." Yum.

  • Available: On tap and in tall-cans at the brewery, or delivery via Beer Van.

ADDITIONAL BEER RELEASES

  • Moody Ales has a new Dunkelweizen for those of you who love banana, baked goods, and chocolate.

  • Parallel 49 has doubled up its version of Jerkface 9,000 to make a 9% ABV Double Wheat beer appropriately called Jerkface 1 Million. Lots of blueberry, passionfruit, guava, white grape and grapefruit.

  • Farmhouse just dropped Pacific Coast Pale Ale, brewed with Canadian barley and wheat, then hopped with Amarillo and Simcoe hops.

  • Beach Fire has put sunshine in a glass with this Guava Lime Blonde.
