Feeling Peachy?

A peach shandy, fresh bottle releases, a Belgian festival, and your weekend reads

Happy Friday!

As the fall arrives, it means we must say a fond farewell to radlers and hello to stouts, porters and (shudder) pumpkin ale. Not all of them are bad, but let's be honest, like everything pumpkin, it's sometimes overdone...

Today we've got a new shandy, a lager fest, why classifying beers is so hard and high praise for Mexican lagers.

Enjoy!

FEATURED NEW BEER RELEASES

Peach Shandy

Slackwater Brewing has released this enticing light lager, "loaded with peaches and lemon juice for a delightfully crushable fruited shandy." Coming in at a breezy 4.5% and hopped with cirtrus-forward Citra hops, this beer should work well in early autumn sunny days.

  • Available: In cans and making its way to stores across BC now.

  • Location: 218 Martin St, Penticton | Map

Age and Beauty

Two new aged bottles arrived at Dageraad yesterday, Entropy 25 Belaton Amber Kelderbier and Brune Kelderbier.

The Brune Kelderbier has a hay-like funk with deep cherry notes to balance out the robust sweetness derived from the malts and mission figs. Entropy 25 builds on these cherry notes, having been aged on juicy balaton cherries and fermented with brettanomyces for a bright and tart indulgence.

  • Available: At the brewery by the glass and in bottles. Can also be ordered online now. In select stores starting next week.

  • Location: 3191 Thunderbird Crescent #114, Burnaby | Map

ADDITIONAL BEER RELEASES

  • Steel & Oak Brewing has a new crisp German lager called Zoigl, which is a mid-point between traditional lager and Märzen. Medium-bodied, moderate maltiness and a clean finish.

  • Red Collar Brewing released Squash Gourdon, a seasonal release made with locally grown sugar pumpkins to yield a spiced brown ale.

  • Coast Mountain re-released its award-winning Woodnutt Brown Ale.
