Your Weekend Primer
Happy Friday!
The weekend forecast for the Lower Mainland has pockets of sun this afternoon, lots of sun tomorrow, and rain on Sunday. I suggest going outdoors Saturday with a can of this week’s recommended drink, which will take you back to your childhood. Then make your way to Langley on Sunday for the Kilt and Cask Festival. Oh, and we’ve also got wolves and mini-golf in this weekend’s primer. Let’s get to it!
The forecast:
⛅ Today 13°C
☀️ Tomorrow 14°C
🌧️ Sunday 13°C
What to drink this weekend
Oranges and Cream
I don’t know who takes the Instagram shots at Superflux, but they deserve a raise. Have you ever seen an ugly photo on Superflux’s feed? The streak continues this week with a fresh release of Fountainbier Orange Cream, a fan favourite. As one Untapped reviewer wrote, the “orange really pops,” a “sweet and tangy” beer that’s “an absolute winner.”
Description: Brewed with orange, tangerine, milk sugar, and Tahitian vanilla.
Details: 4.5% ABV
Where to get it: On tap and in 473ml cans at the brewery
Location: 505 Clark Dr, Vancouver, BC V5L 3H6 | Google Maps
Death Before Download
With the ski season coming to an end, Coast Mountain Beer is marking the occasion with a new hazy IPA. A convenient excuse to linger in Whistler before making that last trip down the Sea-to-Sky corridor with snowboard in tow.
Description: Generous additions of malted oats and malted wheat. Dry-hopped with plenty of NZ Rakau and AUS Galaxy hops, releasing a whole orchard’s worth of fruit flavours.
Details: 6.0% ABV, 20 IBUs
Where to get it: On tap and in Growler fills
Location: 1212 Alpha Lake Rd #2, Whistler, BC V8E 0R5 | Google Maps
Notable Mentions
Paradise Belgian White, Bakery Brewing, Port Moody
Tailgate Session Ale, Barnside Brewing Co., Delta
Social Butterfly Fruited Sour, Ravens Brewing Co (and save butterflies while you’re at it)
Where to go
Did someone say mini golf?
I’ve never understood the appeal of golf. You drive around in a mini car swatting a ball into a hole that is impossibly far away, while drinking beer in the sun? Oh wait, now I get it. Maybe I’ll start with some mini golf before working my way up to the local country club…first up, the brand new mini golf course at Farmhouse Brewing ⛳️.
Good to know: You're welcome to bring your own putters and golf balls. But, seriously, don’t be “that person.”
Even better to know: Your mini Tiger is welcome at the brewery and on the course, they just need to be with you.
Location: Farmhouse Brewing, 6385 Lickman Rd Lot 2southsumas, Chilliwack, BC V2R 4A9 | Google Maps
What to do
Here’s an opportunity to enjoy beer while helping a worthy cause. One dollar from every Mystic Haze sold at this event will be donated to the Pacific Wild Alliance, which itself advocates for protection of the Great Bear Rainforest. This event mixes beer, live music, art installation, and book signings.
Details: 12-8pm, today

Kilt Night Cask Festival
Hopefully you spotted this event when we slipped it into the newsletter two weeks ago, but if you didn’t, fear not, you have time to get tickets for this festival that gives you an excuse to wear a kilt while drinking cask ale. Not into kilts? No sweat, it’s kilt-optional.
Details: 2-7pm, Sunday
Tickets: $30, includes entrance, souvenir glass, and eight drink tokens. Extra tokens are available for $3 ea.
Location: Smugglers Trail Brewery and Restaurant, 200A Street, Langley Township, BC | Google Maps

Strange Resemblance
I learned something new this week: Doppelgangers are considered bad luck, a sign that you’re facing impending death. That, or you’re stuck in some multiverse loop with no way home. While you’re stuck in the loop, might as well grab a bottle to-go of Strange Resemblance, in celebration of National Look Alike Day.
Description: A wild saison with flavours of ripe pineapple and white grape. It was aged with a secondary Brettanomyces culture that contributes to a dry finish and fruity character.
Details: 6.5% ABV, 18 IBUs
Location: 1345 Clark Dr, Vancouver, BC V5L 3K9 | Google Maps
