Stouts and porters are here
It's winter so it's time for darker beers
Happy Friday!
Did you watch Canada's first World Cup game? They put up a great effort, which we should all be proud of. Sadly I can't say I had a beer at 11am, the timezone difference is killer.
Stouts are on the menu this week as breweries embrace the darker winter beers.
Enjoy!

FEATURED NEW BEER RELEASES
Cherry Chery
If you like sangria then boy do we have a beer for you. It's fermented with cabernet sauvignon and "conditioned on orange, dark cherry, red tart cherries, lemon and black currant".
Available: On tap at the brewery.
Lordy Lordy it's Corny
If you can't tell, I love the title. What can I say, it's corny (sorry).
The new lager from Strange Fellow Brewing is brewed with flaked maize and local grains. It's also aged in post-Boris Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. Its balanced bitterness also has a slight taste of peat and bourbon. Yum!
It's of course accompanied by Strange Fellows' signature brand design, which I love.
Available: On tap and in cans at the brewery and at your local liquor store next week.
Tis the Season for Winter Lager
Amber, nutty with a hint of caramel, Barnside's newest Fallow Fields Winter Lager is a traditional German märzenbier and screams December.
Available: In the taproom and in stores next week

FROM THE ARCHIVE
Explore the Styles
Joseph has been hard at work building out different beer style explainers. Check them out:
American Pale Ale
If there is a source of truth on what the perfect American pale ale looks and tastes like, turn to Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale. It's not always easy to find in BC, but if you travel across the border or keep an eye out for it, it's not impossible to get your hands on. It's worth the effort—it remains a classic beer long after it kicked off the craft beer revolution. You can also sense check for the style by using this beer as your default taste profile for the style.
Czech Pilsner
A Czech Pilsner, done well, is a beautiful beer. It is rich in light malt and floral hop character, with a long, rounded finish. It is incredibly refreshing while also pleasing the taste buds with a balanced complexity that keeps things interesting. This isn't a lite lager; this is a Pilsner that isn't afraid to show off its malt backbone.
GAME TIME
