Yellow Canary

Strange Fellows has a mixed fermentation that promises a moderate tart, "balanced with sweet fruity notes of pineapple, tropical candy, and lemon courtesy of loads of pineapple and the Brett D yeast strain." With Yellow Canary, you can expect a light mouthfeel and crisp finish, perfect for summer.

NEW BEER RELEASE
Galaxy Pale Ale
On Thursday Backcountry Brewing is releasing a new pale ale, Would You Tell Picasso To Sell His Guitars? Hopped with Galaxy, a hop variety that is much beloved for its citrus, peach, and passionfruit aromas.
Available: At the brewery starting Thursday, July 7, shipping province-wide in the days and weeks to come.

Spicy Grisette
Shaketown has a seasonal beer with a helluva interesting profile. Brewed with Szechaun peppercorns, blood orange and lemon peel, this table beer promises to fill your nose with "fruit, bubblegum, anise spice, pepper, and citrus." This Grisette finishes dry with a green peppercorn finish. (No idea what a Grisette is? Not to worry, scroll down to this week's Beer School section!)

VCBW 2022 Collaboration

Vancouver Craft Beer Week is releasing its annual collaboration beer in which festival organizers bring together different breweries to showcase their skills, while giving back to the community. This year's collaboration is with House of Funk Brewing, Studio Brewing, and 33B Exp. A portion of sales will benefit Music Heals Canada, which is on a mission to increase access to music therapy for vulnerable Canadians.
Details: A low ABV hoppy saison with notes of citrus, tropical fruit, and white wine.
Available: Onsite at the festival, or at House of Funk Brewing, Joseph Richards Group locations, and online.

Summer Days Sour Saison
Barnside Brewing has a mixed fermentation saison brewed with unsalted wheat, rye, and their very own farm-grown barley malt. Using two different yeast strains, including their own house sourdough culture, Barnside dry hopped this beer with their own farm-grown hops. Now that's a terroir beer. Summer Days Sour Saison is a light, refreshing and thirst-quenching summer sipper with rounded notes of grapefruit.
Available: On tap in the tasting room. Four-packs available at the brewery and in stores, starting this week.

We all have a favourite beer. But which is the best? Is that even possible to decide? We want to find out.
The Great BC Beer-Off will feature some of BC's best beer in a vote-off to see which will be crowned the champion.
The first Beer-Off is between two titans of the BC craft beer scene — the OG craft beer Phillips Blue Buck versus the absolute classic Driftwood Fat Tug.

BC Growler People's Choice Awards
Today marks the last day to vote for your favourite beer in BC Growler's annual people's choice awards. This fourth edition of the awards pits select brews in style categories against each other in a contest to see which comes on top. From the organizers:
With the help of our panel of craft beer and cider experts, we’ve narrowed the field to 8-10 nominees in each beer or cider style category. And if you don’t like our choices, you can write in your own picks instead!
There are prizes for participating and the results will get published in September.

What's a Grisette?
For the first time since we launched The Beer Loop, we have a Grisette on the list of new beer releases. As you can guess from the name, this beer style originates from the mining regions along the French/Belgium border. In taste and approach, it is similar to other farmhouse ales like saisons and bières de garde.
Fans of this style love its golden colour, delicate Belgium-style flavours, light flavours, dry finish, and low alcohol content. You can typically expect a light body and fruity aroma from these beers; it was designed to be a thirst-quenching beer for Belgian miners.
What's in the name? Gris means gray in French, and could be a reference to the colour of the stone the miners in the region mined.
