When summer brings the heat, take out the table beer

A new table beer among 11 new beers to enjoy this weekend

Happy Friday!

A big congrats to Lighthouse for marking 24 years in business this week! That’s a heck of an accomplishment in this business!

My soccer team had its last game of the season on Wednesday and we capped it off with a cold Phillips Implosion Pilsner, which seemed to taste particularly good on a hot 30-degree evening. It reminded me just how much of a beer’s enjoyment comes from the context within which we have it.

So why don’t we all take a moment this weekend to enjoy a beer in a new context? It might take on a whole new flavour. If you’re looking for ideas, we have a big list of events taking place this weekend, and many others to plan in the weeks ahead.

We also have 12 new beers, a new game, and advice on beer and potato chip pairings.

Have a great weekend!

FEATURED NEW BEER RELEASE

Smooth Sailing

Sometimes, on a hot summer day, all you want is a flavourful table beer. You know, something light, but with enough personality to keep you engaged for hours on end.

This new beer from Four Winds Brewing fits the bill.  Fermented in an open foeder, this light beer comes in at 3.2% and features “mineral expressions…rounded out by Continental, Bobek, and Tettnanger hops, finishing with a champaign-like effervescence.” 🥂 Perfect for a warm summer’s day.

Wondering just what the heck a foeder is? Not to worry, we have an explanation here.

  • Tasting notes: light, peppery, slight fruit nose, effervescent

  • Available: in 4 x 355ml cans at the brewery, making its way to stores later in the week.

  • Location: 4-7355 72 St, Delta | Map

ADDITIONAL BEER RELEASES

  • Dageraad has released New Slang 2, a citrus-forward IPA made with thiolized yeast, Cascade and Cashmere jobs.

  • Philips Brewing & Malting has partnered with Leopold’s Tavern to make a tart beer inspired by the 90s nostalgia and strawberry rhubarb pie. If you love Dino Sour candy, this Leosaurus beer might be heaven.

GAME TIME

Blurred out brewery logo

The answer to last week’s BreweryGuesser was Steel & Oak! Congrats to Derek Juneson, Owen Komanchuk, Kim and Holly who all guessed correctly.

We’re trying something different. Above is a brewery logo. Do you know which one it is? For all you Vancouver residents, here’s a hint - it’s not on the mainland.

SOMETHING FUN

I confess to never having thought about chip and beer pairings, but this all makes so much sense no that I think about it.
