It's Wet Hop Season

Harvest ales and plenty of Halloween events

Happy Friday!

Ever wonder how the beer goes from the fermentor to your glass? Faculty Brewing has a quick video that shows you how.

With Halloween around the corner, our upcoming events list features a lot of Halloween parties. Lots of halloween costume contests, lots of special releases. You have no excuse not to enjoy Halloween this year. 🎃 👻

Our list of new beers features several wet hop ales. It's that time of year where we get to fully enjoy the hop harvest. If you've never had a wet-hopped ale, you'll have plenty of options to choose from this weekend.

Geoff and I have been busy reading all the feedback you provided in our first reader survey. Lots of great stuff, and you'll start to see ongoing tweaks to this newsletter as we make this newsletter even better.

FEATURED NEW BEER RELEASES

Belgian Table Beer

Five Roads Brewing's latest beer release is a surprising Belgian table beer, which is brewed to have a lighter body and lower alcohol. I always have one on tap in my home-brew system because the style is light yet flavourful. This version promises subtle flavours of cherry, grape, and biscuit.

  • Available: On tap at the brewery

  • Location: 6263 202 St #1, Langley | Map

Bumper Crop

Speaking of Belgian beers... Dageraad brings us a double release this week, with one of them featuring wet hops. According to the brewery, this year's release is "another vibrant and juicy iteration of our classic Belgian-style blonde made with Centennial hops." A touch of Belgium and a touch of West Coast. Sounds perfect.

The brewery also released the third version New Slang, its experimental IPA series. This one features a theorized yeast, Galaxy and Huell melon hops. You can expect bold tropical citrus notes with a dry finish.

  • Available: in the tasting room or online. On store shelves next week.

  • Location: 3191 Thunderbird Crescent #114, Burnaby | Map

Cocada Coconut Lime Sour

Andina Brewing released Coconut Lime Sour a couple weeks ago but we missed it! Not to worry, Andy tells us the beer is still available on tap and in distribution. This kettle sour was brewed with lots of lime and conditioned on coconut ribbons. It's one-two tropical hit that will take you to a tropical beach.

  • Available: On tap and in cans in select stores.

  • Location: 1507 Powell St, Vancouver | Map

MAKING NEWS

Sunshine drought impacts local brewer

The Sunshine Coast Regional District has declared a state of emergency due to the imminent shortage of water caused by the extended drought. As a result, Persephone Brewing announced this week that it will be ceasing all brewing operations until the community gets through the immediate crisis.

You might be thinking, it's all good, rain is coming this weekend, right? Apparently it won't be enough.

As the brewery noted this week, if you're on the Sunshine Coast right now, save water, drink beer. Since the brewery won't be brewing for a while, can we suggest you give them some love and buy some of their delicious beers if you're in their delivery range?
