The best brewery patios in Vancouver

Where to spend your summer

While the weather in 2022 may not be perfect, it's warm enough to start heading out to patios. And we know there's nothing better than hitting up the local brewery in your neighbourhood.

To celebrate the summer patio season, we're bringing together the best brewery patios in Vancouver. Whether it's a tastefully built one in a parking lot, an art-infused outdoor space or just a place with great shade, we've got your patio brewery needs covered.

We've created a helpful Google Map with all the patio locations you can refer to on your beer adventuring. Check it out here.

STRATCHONA AND DOWNTOWN EAST SIDE

Container Brewing

This industrial-chic brewery feels the part outside as much as it does inside. Picnic tables in the parking lot, next to a container on one side, barrels on the other, and views of the North Shore mountains. Combined with an excellent range of beer on offer, this is a great patio experience.

🍺 What to drink: We love Cloud Theory, a hazy IPA on nitro. It pours beautifully with a super pillowy mouthfeel and wonderful hop flavours without the hop burn of many hazies. It's incredibly drinkable.

  • Food options: Burdy is the brewery's resident food truck, offering delicious chicken/eggplant parmesan sandwiches, beer-battered fries, ceasar salad and a tiramisu made with stout.

  • Brewery location: 1216 Franklin St, Vancouver | Map

Parallel 49 Brewing

It's amazing what a bit of art on the walls can do to brighten a place up. The patio experience at Parallel 49 is top-notch. A beautiful mural, trees, picnic tables, umbrellas, night lighting, an in-house kitchen, all make it a reliable place to have an extended session. Combined with its massive selection of beers there will be something on the menu for every type of beer drinker in your party.

🍺 What to drink: If you find yourself there on a colder day, get Ruby Tears, a red ale with wonderful caramel malt flavour and a snap of west coast hop aromas. The bitterness is restrained, making it easy to drink.

  • Food options: A food truck is parked inside, offering burgers, fries, poutine, guac and chips, calamari, croquetas, wings, and sweets. Lots to choose from.

Strange Fellows

One of Vancouver's favourite tasting rooms thanks to its very friendly and welcoming staff, Strange Fellows also has a patio which serves as the resting place for the countless number of outdoor events the brewery puts on all summer long.

🍺 What to drink: While you could go with the brewery's very popular Talisman American pale ale, try something rustic with the equally popular Strange Resemblance farmhouse saison.

  • Food options: Nicli pizza, charcuterie plates, Jamaican patties, pretzels and nuts from a small kitchen. Stay tuned, soon the brewery will have its own food truck permanently parked outside.

Superflux

While we could talk about the insanely popular IPAs that have made Superflux one of the "it" breweries in the province, visiting the taproom gives you a chance to try some of their other styles, which are equally as good as their juicy IPAs.  Find a spot on the patio and get ready to have your mind blown.

🍺 What to drink: Even if you plan on exploring the non-IPA options, I session at Superlux would be incomplete without at least one IPA. Start with Pretty Much Yeah.

  • Food options: Gourmet hot dogs and salads from the in-house kitchen.

  • Brewery location: 505 Clark Dr, Vancouver | Map

Strathcona

People love the total experience at Stratchcona Brewing - a well-designed taproom, great beers, a top-notch pizza kitchen, and of course, two patios. Great pizza, great beer, great choice.

🍺 What to drink: The Love Buzz Berliner Weiss-style beer is always evolving with different flavours, but is always refreshing. These have included guava lemon, guava grapefruit, raspberry hibiscus, and strawberry guava, among others.

  • Food options: The Hawaiian pizza topped with pistachios is a big hit with customers. Beyond pizza, the brewery offers salads and popular snacks like garlic bites.

Callister Brewing

We should all pay a visit to Callister Brewing at some point in our travels. It originally launched as an incubator for other breweries and in some ways, without Callister, you wouldn't have Superflux, Night Owl, Boombox, Real Cask Ales, among others. So, when you're ready to pay tribute, or support a business that has supported so many others over the years, you can do so knowing delicious beer and a patio awaits you.

🍺 What to drink: With 12 rotating taps, including three cask engines for those looking for a proper British beer experience, you have plenty of options. Try the Cuban Taxi, a Guava Gose. Lots of tropical fruit, and a soft luscious mouth feel.

  • Food options: limited pub snacks, so come here for a starter if you're planning a day or night out.

  • Brewery location: 1338 Franklin St, Vancouver | Map

Luppolo Brewing

Luppolo has an Italian craft brewery vibe about it. Regulars love the beautiful thin-crust pizzas, and we love the option to get a slow pour on select taps. Warm rustic vibes all around make this a great spot to chill, eat, and relax for hours.

🍺 What to drink: La Piazza Italian Pilsner is one of the beers available for a slow pour, which we highly recommend for a smooth and creamy experience.

  • Food options: Delicious pizza, Italian sandwiches, soups and salads, and small snacks like olives and shishito peppers.
